SWIMMING GEAR OBSTACLE COURSE RELAY
Create an underwater themed obstacle course in your backyard! Obstacle courses are fun but encourage thinking and problem solving.
Exercise is a lot more fun when you make a game out of it. Create your own relay race obstacle course in your backyard with your family!
Before you get started place two piles, boxes, or suitcases filled with items you would use to go
swimming or a day at the ocean at each end of the obstacle course. Divide the group into two
teams. Each player will put on all of the items as the first station of your obstacle course! These
items could include:
-
A life jacket
-
Goggles
-
Arm or ring floaties
-
Beach Towel
-
Beach bag
-
Sunglasses
-
Sandals
-
Hat
The first player runs to the pile, puts on all the swimming gear on top of their regular clothes, then starts the obstacle course!
When they make it back, the player must remove all the swimming items and pass them off to the next player, who puts them on and runs the length of the obstacle course before returning to the team. Then, they'll remove swimming gear so the next player can repeat the process.
What stations to have in your obstacle course?? First, think of some fitness activities you like to do. Here’s a list to get you started:
-
Climbing through a refrigerator box
-
Doing curls
-
Climbing a fence
-
Jumping over an obstacle
-
Jumping rope
-
Doing the long jump
-
Monkey bars
-
Plank walking
-
Doing push-ups
-
Shooting a basketball
-
Swinging on a rope
-
Tumbling
-
Weight lifting
Lay out a path for your obstacle course and set up your stations along it. Put a sign at each station saying what you’re supposed to do there, like “Do Five Push-ups.” Now the fun begins! Take turns going through the course. Record your times.
